North Hudson Community Action Corporation Seeking Car Seat Donations for Child Safety Initiative
North Hudson Community Action Corporation is coordinating a
drive for the donation of car seats for distribution to families in need. Donations of
new, or used car seats in excellent condition are being sought.
There is a particular need for this effort in the Latino community, a community that
comprises the majority of North Hudson Community Action Corporation’s service
area. Car crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for Latino children, yet
many parents still do not use safety seats to protect their children's lives.
New
studies documenting child passenger safety issues by ethnicity, race and sex,
indicate that Hispanics have lower rates of child safety seat and seat belt use than
any other group.
Car seats are required for children under the age of six years and/or those whose
feet do not touch the floor while seated. There are so many aspects that go into
the total health of a community, said Michael A. Leggiero, President & CEO.
Hudson County is congested, making automobile safety a challenge, and car seats
for children a necessity. Our goal is to make sure that all parents have the ability
to protect their children.
