Deer-Car Crashes Costly In South Carolina
Each year there are approximately 500,000 deer/auto collisions resulting in over 100 deaths and thousands of injuries nationwide. Your chances of being involved in a deer-vehicle collision become greater in the fall, especially from October through December.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, there were four deaths and 670 injuries as a result of 4,337 collisions with deer and other animals in 2002 in South Carolina. There were 3,846 property damage collisions.
Vehicles involved in these collisions will sustain some level of damage. The Insurance Information Institute states the average claim loss relating to deer collisions is about $2,000 nationwide but costs can run as high as $8,000.
