Valtek, An Advanced Accessory Systems Company, Reveals New Auto-Body Technology
ValTek, LLC, an Advanced Accessory Systems
Company, has exclusive license to commercialize new plastics technology which can be applied
to create large body panels for automobiles.
Called The Valyi Process, the innovation uses
thermoplastic compression molding to form auto body parts with an integrated, high-quality paint
film finish. ValTek will publicly present its discoveries for the first time at the SAE
International Congress and Exposition.
According to Bob Lucke, President and COO of ValTek, While detailed tests of several new
constructions are still taking place, we have already confirmed that strong, low-cost large parts
are possible. Long-fiber reinforcements, resin and a Class A paint finish are incorporated into
the piece simultaneously, making this not just an efficient process, but a cost-effective one, as
well.
ValTek will also reveal how The Valyi Process:
· Produces Class A structural components without pre-forming of composite film
· Eliminates investment in paint plants and environmental concerns
· Reduces cycle times by 50 percent or more when compared with painted
injection molded articles
· Reduces forming pressures to one-quarter of what is required for conventional
injection molding
· Permits selective insertion of engineered reinforcements.
ValTek has explored the capabilities of this technology since summer 1997. The Valyi
Process was invented and originally patented by the late Emery I. Valyi, Ph.D. Valyi was involved
in the plastics industry for more than 50 years and founded the Valyi Institute of Plastic Forming
at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
