New NHTSA Crash Test Results For Model Year 2000 Passenger Cars

The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today announced that it has released front and side crash test results for two additional model year 2000 vehicles and posted them on the World Wide Web.

The results show safety ratings for frontal impact crashes for the model year 2000 Honda Accord four-door and the Saturn LS four-door. The web site also includes the results for side-impact crash tests involving the same two makes and models.

The 2000 Honda Accord received a frontal rating of four stars on the driver’s side and four stars on the passenger’s side. The 2000 Saturn LS received a frontal rating of four stars on the driver’s side and four stars on the passenger’s side.

The 2000 Honda Accord received a side rating of four stars in the front and five stars in the rear seat. The 2000 Saturn LS received a frontal rating of four stars on the driver's side and five stars on the passenger's side.

These new test results are in addition to results for many vehicles tested previously that remain valid because auto manufacturers are selling the same or essentially the same vehicles in model year 2000. Including the two ratings released today, the NHTSA world wide web site now provides frontal impact safety information on a total of 80 model year 2000 vehicles, and side-impact safety information, on 79 model year 2000 vehicles.

For both frontal and side impact, the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) reports crash test results in a range of one to five stars, with five stars showing the best crash protection. Frontal tests should be compared only among vehicles within the same weight class.
