Kenwood Shows Advanced GPS Car Navigation System
Kenwood, maker of touchscreen navigation systems for the automotive aftermarket, introduced the KNA-3100, an advanced DVD-based GPS vehicle navigation system.
The KNA-3100 provides coverage of the U.S. and Canada, with over 6 million miles of mapped roadways and a built-in database of more than 10 million points of interest. Automatic re-routing provides near instantaneous route re-calculation in the event of a wrong turn.
The KNA-3100, shown here today at Consumer Electronics Show, received a 2004 CES Innovation Award from the Consumer Electronics Association.
A new graphical user interface gives users 2D and 3D color views of mapped routes and displays split-screen views showing detailed routing, turn lists, icon identification of interest points, and other features. Users may also select to hear spoken instructions, with timely voice prompts, played through the car’s audio system.
The KNA-3100 can also be equipped with optional voice recognition, allowing safe, hands-free operation. Precision electronics, including wheel speed and gyroscopic sensors, high-speed processor, and an 8-channel satellite GPS receiver, make the KNA-3100 one of the world’s fastest, most accurate vehicle tracking and mapping system available for consumer or commercial use.
You can’t beat Kenwood for ease-of-use, features, or performance, said Rick Noetzli, product manager for car electronics. This is the premium product in the category, period. The KNA-3100 can be used with a large number of Kenwood LCD touchscreen video products, including in-dash DVD receivers, motorized in-dash monitors, and stand-alone widescreen displays for dash, console and rear-seat locations. With an optional remote control, the KNA-3100 can also be used with any existing mobile TV.
Additional features include comparison display of normal, shortest, and fastest routes; adjustable 3D map viewing angles; destination search mode; detour routing; a 13-step map display scale; pop-up point-of-interest display; and operation in eight languages.
