Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction, presented by Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep

Barrett-Jackson Auction Company today announced unprecedented success and record-breaking sales of the muscle cars that crossed the block during the 33rd annual Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction, presented by Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep.

The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company broke eight world records in the muscle car category at the four-day event, including a 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda Coupe that sold for $216,000 and a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi Coupe that sold for $170,000. Overall, Barrett-Jackson established 23 world records in sales at the auction, which garnered a record-breaking $38.5 million in sales, reinforcing its position as ‘The World’s Greatest Classic Car Auction.’

In the 2004 Auction, Barrett-Jackson consigned the largest selection of Hemi-powered vehicles ever offered at one auction. As the value of collectible muscle cars continues to trend upwards, the twelve Hemi-powered cars consigned included some of the most unique vehicles ever manufactured. The famed Hemi 426 cu.in/425 hp engine is widely regarded as the most famous of all engines in the automotive world.

The record-breaking muscle cars, all of which were offered at No Reserve, included the following examples:

* 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Coupe sold for $216,000

* 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird 2 Door Hardtop sold for $194,400

* 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi Coupe sold for $170,100

* 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda 2-Door Hardtop sold for $159,300

* 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Copo RS Coupe sold for $142,560

* 1967 Plymouth Hemi Satellite Convertible sold for $135,000

* 1969 Plymouth Hemi Roadrunner 2 Door Hardtop sold for $105,300

We have been aware of the increase in popularity over recent years of muscle cars as collector vehicles, said Barrett-Jackson President Craig Jackson. The selling price of muscle cars in this year’s auction clearly demonstrates the fact that the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction not only sets the standard for collector trends, but it is the finest place to buy and sell the most superb muscle cars in the world.

The Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction garnered an estimated $38.5 million in sales. Of the 762 cars that crossed the auction block during the four-day event, 744 cars were purchased, which translates into a world record 98% sales percentage.
