PhatNoise Selects PMC-Sierra's MIPS-based Microprocessor to Power Next-Generation Car Entertainment System

PMC-Sierra, Inc., today announced that PhatNoise, Inc., a leading provider of automotive digital entertainment systems, has selected PMC-Sierra's 400 MHz RM5231A 64-bit MIPS-based microprocessor for their next-generation car entertainment system.

PhatNoise selected the PMC-Sierra MIPS-based microprocessor for its combination of high performance, low power, and unparalleled scalability. This combination permits performance upgrades in the same footprint and minimizes software and board development costs.

PMC-Sierra provides a high performance, low power solution that meets the demands of the new features for our next-generation car entertainment system, and also allows us to seamlessly upgrade performance for future products while preserving code and dollar investments, said Dannie Lau, co-founder and executive vice president at PhatNoise.

PMC-Sierra provides a scalable evaluation platform for the RM5231A, RM7035C, and RM7935 64-bit MIPS-based microprocessors with a 32-bit SysAD interface that connects to the PMC-Sierra PM8172 32-bit System Controller.

Available in speeds ranging from 250 MHz to 900 MHz, these microprocessors are available in an innovative packaging technology that allows seamless pin-compatible upgrades. Customers can choose the microprocessor performance level for their current design and have the ability to seamlessly increase performance for their subsequent designs.

PMC-Sierra's RM5231A 64-bit MIPS-based microprocessor was designed to meet the high performance, low power requirements of today's and tomorrow's demanding consumer electronics market, said Jason Chiang, manager of product marketing, Microprocessor Products Division at PMC-Sierra.

Using an innovative packaging technology, we can help our customers save on future design costs by providing them a scalable, pin-compatible solution that can be used in multiple products for multiple generations.
